On a September 2025 trip to Greece, I was anxious to explore all that I had heard about the ancient monuments and artifacts that highlight Greek history and culture. The destinations visited included Athens, Nauplia, Olympia, Delphi, Kalambaka, and the Greek island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea. Of those locations, Santorini stood out for its’ dramatic caldera, stunning sunsets, unique black and red beaches and the spectacular whitewashed villas with their striking cobalt blue domes. There is an unmistakable romantic vibe to the place.
Although I enjoyed Santorinis’ breathtaking views, ancient ruins and local culture, I was also inspired to capture alternative photographic views of the whitewashed blue domed villas. While their contrasting color is stunning, I was equally intrigued with their shapes and how they blended and flowed effortlessly into each other. This Gallery showcases the beauty of how their form meets function.
My approach required the application of multiple exposures by layering images in a juxtaposed fashion to create abstract geometric forms, patterns and flowing lines. I also applied an alternative color palette using Color Reversal film and special lens filtering. This resulted in a pinkish tan sepia toned effect which further highlighted the abstract approach I chose for this project.
